ENGAGING OUR GOVERNMENT PARTNERS

The SF Market is privileged to maintain a deep relationship with the City and County of San Francisco. In fact, we have worked together since 1962 when a former United States Department of Defense supply depot in the Bayview Hunters Point district was identified as a suitable location for the beloved relocated wholesale produce market. A true San Francisco institution, The SF Market opened in 1963 with a 50-year ground lease from the City of San Francisco. In 2013, The SF Market renewed our formal partnership with the City under a new 60-year lease.

SUPPORTING A CULINARY DESTINATION CITY

The SF Market serves business customers across the San Francisco Bay Area and the state, with the majority of customers located in San Francisco. Our nearly two dozen merchants ensure a consistent supply of healthy, fresh, high-quality produce from California’s world-renowned agriculture industry to San Francisco hotels, restaurants, grocers, and produce distributors, playing a key role in the fabric of the San Francisco community and bolstering San Francisco’s tourism industry, by supporting the City’s reputation as a world-class food destination and center of culinary culture.

JOB CREATION & COMMUNITY ANCHOR

The SF Market creates over 500 high-quality PDR (production, distribution, and repair) jobs, many of which are held by residents of San Francisco; the thousands of suppliers and Bay Area food businesses create tens of thousands more jobs. We have also served as an informal anchor for PDR activities elsewhere in the Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood, attracting other food‐related businesses, such as beverage distribution, seafood wholesale and distribution, and dry goods suppliers to the Bayview neighborhood.

ALIGNED ENVIRONMENTAL GOALS

We worked with the City and County of San Francisco as a pilot site for their now widely successful municipal green waste recycling. Today, we continue to support the zero-waste goals of SF Environment with our award-winning Food Recovery program, which has redirected over 9 million pounds of quality, surplus produce to deserving, food-insecure Bay Area residents – produce that otherwise would have headed to the landfill.

OPEN TO FURTHER PARTNERSHIP

The SF Market is grateful for our role and open to further partnership with the City and County of San Francisco. By partnering with us, you are supporting critical food infrastructure, facilitating business commerce, and allowing us to continue to support and directly contribute to efforts to reduce food insecurity in San Francisco. Please contact us if we can be of additional service.
